On behalf of the Board of Delegates and the Convention Committee for the Tennessee Alliance for Black Lawyers, it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 3rd Annual TABL Convention which will take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee from June 15-18, 2011 at the Chattanoogan Hotel. This year’s convention promises to be a great success as it will bring together approximately 80-100 lawyers, judges and law students from across the State of Tennessee to network, collectively discuss common issues and convene for a great time with friends and fellow members of the Tennessee bar.

This year, under the theme, “Raising the Bar: Lifting As We Climb,” TABL is proud to offer a fantastic lineup of educational programming, networking opportunities with lawyers and judges, and social events for the whole family. Join us also for the Riverbend Festival which is going on alongside this year’s convention in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. Boasting five (5) stages with over 100 bands featuring world class entertainers, including our featured artists Brian McKnight and Marsha Ambrosius.

The highlight of this year’s convention is a special off-site forum featuring a panel discussion regarding the famous “Contempt of Court” case about Ed Johnson and his two lawyers. This case is historical as it recounts the story of the first black lawyers to take a case to the U.S. Supreme Court. It is also the first and only time in history the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the arrest of parties before it, charged them with criminal contempt of the Supreme Court, and held a historical criminal trial before the Court with the Justices sitting as jurors.

The Annual Convention Committee has worked diligently to provide the perfect setting for business, education and pleasure.
